Canopus performed the commissioning on the new Mediaco 45′ equipped with Volvo Penta IPS600 system at Al Dhaen in Bahrain. This was the first IPS installation ever in Bahrain.

Canopus develops charge air drain solution for two-stroke engines!

Charge_air_drainIn cooperation with Wärtsilä Sweden AB Canopus have developed a charge air drain solution for two-stroke engines.

Charge Air Condense water drain solutionThe solution has been reviewed by the Swedish Flagstate with the following comments:

“According to MEPC.1/Circ.642 it is possible to discharge the condensate water from the charge air cooler directly overboard. Since it cannot be made absolutely certain that the condensate water from air coolers does not contain oil, you suggest to discharge this water through the existing 15 ppm oil content meter.

The Swedish Maritime Transport Agency share your concern about condensate water containing oil and consider your solution to decrease the risk of pollution by oil and thereby increasing the ships environmental protection.

The Swedish Maritime Transport Agency has therefore no objection to the mode of procedure you suggest.”

The proposed solution works together with Oily Water Separator systems.

New support rates in Norwegian NOx-fund!

In the new Environmental Agreement for the period 2011-2017, the Norwegian NOx-fund has changed its support rates for NOx reducing measures. Under the new agreement SCR-systems with a documented operation record may receive support of up to 80% for renewing the catalytic elements. Canopus catalytic elements can be tailor-made to fit in most existing SCR-systems. The catalysts are made of 100% catalytically active material of the so called Full-contact type. This catalyst structure counteracts losses in activity, since a slight amount of abrasion always exposes fresh active material at the catalyst surface and makes it available for NOx removal. Furthermore the catalysts are mounted with padding inside stainless steel cassettes enabling them to withstand severe vibrations and the harsh environment in a marine diesel exhaust funnel.

Highly effective marine Soot blowing systems added to Product range!

Canopus are proud to present to the market a highly efficient Soot blowing system capable of removing soot in the most difficult locations inside SCR-reactors and Marine boilers. The systems are available both for newbuildings and for retrofit in applications where build-up of soot and rising exhaust back pressure is a problem.

As more catalytic surface is freed in the SCR-reactor when soot is removed more efficiently the risk for ammonia slip is reduced. The urea consumption can also be lowered on account of this. In the same fashion the efficiency of the boiler is also raised when soot is removed from its surface providing more troublefree operation.

The systems are fully automatic and the result of lengthy research and development. The functionality have been proven in numerous applications. Canopus have, with the aid of CFD calculations, further optimized the system to the marine environment.

Canopus visits SMM in Hamburg!

The visit to SMM exhibition in Hamburg was very productive. Many new business contacts were established for interesting projects. It was also good to catch up with friends from the marine industry.

Canopus website has been up for about a week with limited functionality and information. On september 7 it was finally launched with full functionality and all pages and links available. It will be continuosly updated with more information as CMS develops.
